Q: I’m not sure I want to file. What are some alternatives to divorce?

A: Each family is different and filing for divorce may not be in your best interest at this exact moment. A legal separation does not end your marriage but allows you to make decisions regarding your property and children. Some do this to retain marriage status for religious or health care reasons. Q: What is a “no-fault” divorce?

A: In Georgia, you do not need to prove your reasons for filing. If you no longer wish to be married, that is a good enough reason.

Q: How long does it take to get divorced?

A: Each case is different, so it is hard to give an exact answer. However, the more you and your spouse agree on, the faster it will go. If you have things to work through, it will take longer. For some couples, it can take longer than you make like, but we will do our best to be as efficient and effective as possible.

Q: We just moved here. How long do I have to wait to file?

A: Either you or your partner must be a resident of the state of Georgia for at least six months. Give us a call for additional information.
